before the flood

Off-off-Broadway Admat

After reading the before the flood script, I worked with the show’s writer and director, Emily Bice and Nina Goodheart, to identify the most important themes and symbols. Our goal was to begin telling the story behind the main character, Yam, and hint at the tensions she will be facing. The illustration is meant to peak the viewers interest about the plot and depict this biblical story told with contemporary language.

“A family dramedy inspired by ~actual~ Biblical events, Emily Bice’s before the flood is a contemporary reimagining of the night Noah told his family that a flood was coming, and that they were the only ones being saved. But what about the ones left behind? Brimming with humor and poignancy, this play turns the story of Noah's Ark into a full-hearted, feminist exploration of what we owe to each other – and to our planet – in times of crisis.”

The Process

You’re meant to see this poster and feel the impending doom of a world-ending flood and wonder what will happen to Yam and

who she chooses to be at the end of it all.
